Keeping Tree Roots Away From Your Plumbing System

Now that the weather is finally warming up, the trees and shrubs around your home are going to be looking for water.  However, you don't want this water source to be your plumbing system! Here are a few tips to help you prevent tree roots from invading your lines.

Sewer Line Tips:

  • Plant Carefully - Plant larger trees far enough away from your sewer lines that the roots are not within reach of the pipes.  You can plant slow-growing trees with small root balls closer to your lines.
  • Know the Warning Signs - Clogged drains happen.  However, if your drain is frequently clogged and slow-flowing, it might be a sign that tree roots have invaded your linen.
  • Have Your Pipes Inspected - We offer main drain video inspections that help homeowners determine what is going on inside of their plumbing pipes in real-time.  If you are experiencing any plumbing problems, our technicians can help you understand the cause of the problem and whether or not tree root growth is effecting your plumbing.

Celebrate Earth Day By Making Your Plumbing Eco-Friendly

Happy Earth Day!

Looking to make your home more eco-friendly today?  Greening your plumbing system can be a big step towards making your home more sustainable!

Here are a few tips to help get you started on the road to reducing your environmental impact.

Green Plumbing Tips:

  • Install Low-Flow Toilets - Did you know that your toilet is responsible for about 27% of the water consumed in your home?  Replacing your old toilet with a low-flow model is a great place to start when making your bathroom more eco-friendly.
  • Upgrade to Low-Flow Shower Heads - Taking shorter showers is definitely one way to cut back on water use, but you should also consider installing a low-flow shower head.  These shower heads cut drastically cut down on your water usage.
  • Upgrade Your Water Heater - New water heater efficiency standards were put into effect this month.  This means that newer water heaters are more efficient at providing your home with hot water.  You can even update to a tankless water heater that saves energy by heating water as you use it.
  • Fix Leaks - Faucet leaks can easily go unfixed in a busy household.  However, they can account for almost 20 gallons of water waste per day!  Fixing a leaky faucet is good for the environment, and your bank account.
