Tell Tale Signs Your Water Heater Needs Maintenance

Water heaters often go overlooked, but just like any other appliance in your home, they require regular maintenance!  With water heater maintenance, you can extend the life expectancy of your tank and prevent problems.  If you're experiencing any of these problems in your home, you're probably due for water heater maintenance.

Signs You Need Water Heater Maintenance:
  • You Don't Have Hot Water - While this may seem obvious, inadequate, or no hot water entirely, is a sure sign your water heater is not working effectively.  This could have to do with your water demand, or it could be a faulty valve.  With regular water heater maintenance, you can fix these problems and restore hot water in your home.
  • You Have Rust Colored Water - This is likely due to corrosion on the inside of your tank.  You'll likely need your water heater checked out by a professional.
  • There Is A Rotten Egg Smell - Bacteria in your water heater tank can fed on hydrogen gas, causing a rotten egg-like smell.  It might be time to flush your water heater to keep it clean and in good condition.

What to Expect (and not to expect) from Your Tankless Water Heater

Ready to upgrade your water heater this fall?  On average, you should replace your water heater every 10-13 years.  If you're thinking of making the upgrade - it might be time to switch to tankless!

Tankless water heaters differ from traditional water heaters in that they do not store heated water.  Instead, the water is heated as you use your system.  Since this model is a little different than what many people are used to, here's what you can expect (and what you shouldn't expect) from your new tankless water heater.

What to Expect:

  • Endless Hot Water - Your new hot water heater doesn't have a tank that stores hot water.  Instead, it heats as you need the water.  You have endless amounts of hot water to use in your home.
  • Time for Heating Up - It does take some time for your new water heater to heat up the water.  Since the water is not constantly heated, it will take a few minutes to warm up.  However, once it does, the water is not limited to the size of your tank.
  • More Space - Tankless water heaters take up less space than traditional water heaters.  This means that you have more room in your basement to move around in!
