How to Choose the Right Bathtub for Your Home

There are many factors that come into play when choosing the right bathtub for your home.  If you're looking to upgrade your tub and remodel your bathroom this winter, here are a few things to consider before you begin.

Things to Consider:

  • Know What You Want - Are you looking to have an everyday bathtub that is great for kids and pets?  Do you want a luxury spa-like tub?  The type of bathtub you choose depends on what you are looking to get out of it.
  • Know Your Starting Point - Existing bathrooms may be limited by existing space and plumbing.  Consider the extent to which you are looking to remodel you bathroom.
  • Consider Comfort - No matter who will be using your bathtub, you want to make sure that the bathtub is comfortable.
  • Determine If Your Floor Can Handle the Weight - Heavier, deep soaker tubs hold a lot of water.  This can put a lot of weight on your floor.  Make sure that your floor has enough strength for the type of tub you are considering for your bathroom.

Check out this article for more tips on how to choose the right bathtub.  If you have any questions, contact our office!  Our professional technicians and designers can help you create the perfect bathroom remodel and help you choose the right bathtub for your family.

Signs It's Time for a New Sink

Kitchen and bathroom sinks see a lot of wear and tear.  How many times do you turn your sink on and off throughout the day?

Here are a few signs your sink is due for a replacement.

  • Outdated, Faulty Fixtures - If it's difficult to clean the hardware on your sink, it might be time to consider an upgrade.  Older hardware can look dated and be difficult to use.  If metal chips off and gets caught in your water stream, it could be dangerous to your health too.
  • Leaks - If you are experiencing obvious plumbing issues like a leaky faucet or slow draining water, consider replacing your sink.  While these issues can be corrected, it might be a convenient time to give your sink an overhaul.
  • Low Water Pressure - Low water pressure could be a sign that your plumbing pipes are corroded.  Overtime, galvanized steel pipes degrade and their diameter narrows.  This makes it difficult for water to pass through the pipes.
  • Poor Water Quality - Is your water rusty or foul smelling?  It's important that you have good water quality in your home for your plumbing and for your health.  Replacing your sink can help correct any corrosive and bacterial elements that might be in your sink.

Celebrate National Bath Safety Month

January is National Bath Safety Month!  Now is the perfect time to update and remodel your bathroom .  Here are a few tips to help make your bathroom a safer place for you and your family.

Tips for Bath Safety Month:

  • Install Grab Bars - Safety grab bars provide support and help you prevent slip and falls.  They don't have to clash with your decor either.  There are many different design options that can help you create a safe, but elegant bathroom look.
  • Upgrade to a Walk-In Shower - Stepping into and out of a bathtub increases your risk of falling.  Walk-in showers can help make your bathroom safer for kids and adults looking to age in place.
  • Keep Your Bathroom Well-Lit - Make sure your bathroom is well-lit and cleared.  This will help make sure you can see what you are doing and help keep you from losing your footing.
  • Use Bath Mats - Non-slip pads can help provide an extra grip to prevent bathroom falls.  Children and aging adults may have a hard time with balance.  Bath mats can help provide extra stability!

Rochester's Cold Spell Can Put Your Plumbing at Risk

The new year has certainly brought colder temperatures.  Although we haven't accumulated much snow, the temperature is expected to drop as low as -20 degrees Fahrenheit with the windchill factor tonight!

In addition to bundling up in layers this week, it's also important to keep an eye on your plumbing system.  Extended cold spells can cause your pipes to freeze!

Signs Your Pipes are Frozen:

  • Visible Frost - If you notice frost building on the pipes under your sink, your pipe might be frozen before you even try to turn on the faucet.
  • No Running Water - When pipes freeze, running water won't be delivered to your sink.  If no water is coming out when you turn on the faucet, the water pipe may be frozen.
  • Burst Pipes - Water expands when it freezes.  If you notice that your pipe has burst, give us a call.  Our professional plumbing technicians can help you get your water up and running.
Stay warm this week and if you experience any frozen pipes, give us a call at 585-216-3058.  It's important to act quickly and thaw your pipe to prevent burst pipes and extensive damage.  Our professional plumbing technicians can help you with all of your plumbing repair needs!   For more tips, Like us on FacebookFOLLOW us on Twitter, and Connect with us on Google+!
